Vivitar VPT-240 Quick Release Camera Mount
thingiverse
This is another case in point of why 3D printers are not just toys but rather invaluable tools. I've managed to replicate my quick release mount for my trusty Vivitar VPT-240 tripod, and it's a huge success. This replica was made necessary because the original is quite old, making parts nearly impossible to find or extremely expensive. Hopefully, this can serve as a lifesaver for someone else facing a similar challenge. To make the most of the situation, I've opted for a 1/4"-20 3/8" long screw instead of the standard 1/4"-20 1/2" long one. I've also replaced the conventional washer with a nut to compensate for the longer screw length, as my local hardware store was unfortunately out of stock on the shorter screws. Miraculously, it worked beautifully. Initially, I considered gluing a square sheet of cork to the surface to improve its suitability for receiving a camera, but surprisingly, it functions perfectly well without it. However, one corner did warp slightly, though this minor imperfection doesn't affect its overall performance. I'm thrilled with the result and hope you will be too.
