Truck tractors are specifically designed for transporting goods in road trains, which consist of working together with one or more trailers or semitrailers. In Europe, the overall mass of these trucks is limited to 44 tons; however, countries like Sweden and Finland allow a higher limit of up to 60 tons. Australia, on the other hand, permits even heavier road trains, known as Road Trains, with a gross weight of up to 105 tons and multiple trailers. In the United States, tractors generally follow the classic hood arrangement, while European ones have cabs positioned above the engine due to length restrictions. All current truck tractors are equipped with diesel or turbo-diesel engines; however, in the past, gas turbine units were experimented with. Additionally, ballast tractors exist for hauling heavy trailers and superheavy loads, featuring engines of 800-1200 horsepower, resulting in total weights exceeding 2000 tons.
