Aulus Vitellius was a mighty Roman emperor who ruled as the last of Nero's three brief successors. Born into a prominent family, he was the son of Lucius Vitellius, Claudius's esteemed colleague and censor, who also held the high office of consul an impressive three times. Aulus himself rose through the ranks to become consul in 48 AD and proconsul of Africa, demonstrating his exceptional leadership abilities. When Galba took the throne, he appointed Vitellius as imperial governor of Lower Germany in 68, a position that showcased his administrative prowess.
