When chaos ravages the world, Vishnu bursts forth in various forms to conquer adversity and restore harmony. Once, a desperate earth, personified as a woman, was submerged beneath the waves. Undaunted, Vishnu transformed into a mighty boar, plunging into the depths, liberating her from captivity, and lifting her to the surface with unyielding strength. Here, Vishnu is depicted with a boar's head and a four-armed human body, while the Earth, whose broken form bespeaks her ordeal, rests against the elbow of Vishnu's upper-left arm.
