Vise Clamp With Detachable Grips
thingiverse
This vise was designed for a 3D printer class competition using a Tronxy X3A. It consists of a 3D printed fixed jaw base, sliding jaw, detachable grips, screw knob, and base plate. A 4” long ¼-20 bolt is used along with a nut and washer to secure the vise in place. The head of the ¼-20 bolt was wrapped in modeling tape and pressed into the recessed portion of the screw knob to ensure a tight fit. The recess on the knob was deliberately oversized, so wrapping the bolt head guaranteed a snug fit. The bolt is then installed in the fixed jaw base with a washer placed between the knob and the fixed jaw base for smooth operation. Next, the sliding jaw is attached, featuring a recessed portion to install the ¼-20 nut. This nut pulls the sliding jaw towards the fixed jaw base as the screw knob is turned; by recessing the nut into the part, it captures the nut and prevents it from spinning freely within the part. The nut was wrapped in modeling tape for a tight fit, ensuring proper alignment with the holes in the sliding jaw before running the bolt through. After tightening the knob, the sliding jaw is brought into the fixed jaw base. Finally, the fixed jaw base is superglued to the base plate, which has a raised stopper plate preventing the bolt from sliding in the clamp and leaving enough space between the stopper and the knob for smooth operation. The base plate also features mount points using ¼-20 bolts at 1” centers. Once the base plate was installed, the detachable grips were attached to the fixed jaw base and sliding jaw. These grips have dovetail joints that can be redesigned to suit the user's needs.
