A vise, alternatively spelled vice, is a tool comprising of two parallel jaws which securely grip a work piece; one jaw remains stationary while the other moves through mechanisms such as screws, levers or cams. In situations where manual operations like filing, hammering or sawing are being carried out, the vise can be permanently mounted on a bench.
