Virtual Rosewood Cemetery
sketchfab
A digital replica of the cemetery in Rosewood, Florida - site of a devastating 1923 racial conflict that obliterated a thriving, predominantly African American community spanning generations. This virtual graveyard serves as a poignant tribute to those who lived and perished on this land. The 3D model is built from a fusion of data: ground surface information derived from LiDAR and photogrammetry analysis; surviving tombstones meticulously documented through a blend of photogrammetry and 3D modeling techniques; and the locations of unmarked graves painstakingly mapped using a combination of surveying and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scans. The property is currently under private ownership (not mine), with the landowner allowing descendants to pay their respects at the gravesites, though it remains inaccessible to the public at large.
