Create your personal 3D Virtual Reality headset with complete DIY Oculus Rift components! Once assembled and adding extra parts, this headset includes full head tracking capabilities. For the DIY enthusiast, you will need a Sparkfun 9DOF Head Tracker, Sparkfun FTDI USB Breakout board, a 5.6" LCD Screen and controller board (7 in 1 from vitrolight ebay), 2m HDMI Cable to make LVDS Cable, 2x HDMI ports with solder pads, 2x 50mm Asphric Lenses, and elastic for head strap. The total cost of components is approximately £300; a cheaper alternative to the Oculus Rift is not intended. Instead, wait for the consumer version or buy the developer kit. This project was purely for building fun and all STL files and Google SketchUp files are uploaded for modifications. Printable on RepRap without support needed.
