This exquisite relief was crafted by a skilled colleague of Donatello's, who also designed the marble courtyard ornaments for the Medici Palace in Florence. It's likely that the relief was positioned high above eye level: Christ gazes downward, extending his right hand in a blessing to the fictional viewer of this dramatic scene. A cherub on the right has been added by modern hands.
