Virgin and Child (called the Verona Madonna)

This relief showcases a timeless Virgin and Child scene. The extremely intimate connection between a mother and her child, conceived by Donatello, has been replicated numerous times, but the original piece remains lost. The composition is named after one of these replicas, housed in a street tabernacle in Verona. In 1967, West Berlin Museums acquired this work to replace a loss suffered during war; unfortunately, this purchase turned out to be a modern forgery.
