Violin Fretboard
thingiverse
This is a printable fretboard for a standard 4/4 violin that's still a work in progress. I invite you to share your feedback and remixes. To get started, simply tape it onto the fingerboard with painters tape - it works okay but doesn't look as good as adhesive backing or clips. After printing, remove the support foot. To install, loosen the strings just a little, then slide it under and up the neck until it's flush with the nut. Apply some tape and retune the instrument. I made around five different versions before uploading this one. However, there are still areas that need improvement - for instance, the fret spacing seems to be less than a quarter note off between strings. Additionally, getting the curvature of the neck just right took a few attempts, and it might vary slightly from one violin to another. If the neck is not perfectly curved, it could cause the board to lift up on the edges or center and touch the strings. This project is still in development. I plan to revisit it in a few months and incorporate any suggestions you may have. Thanks to David, creator of fffiddle, for introducing me to the world of violin strings.
