Vinyl Turntable - It Plays Records :-)

The turntable is not meant to be a replacement for a quality deck, but rather an experimental design to push the boundaries of 3D printing technology. It works surprisingly well given its limitations and can be improved upon with further modifications. This guide is not a comprehensive tutorial on building a turntable, but rather a starting point for those interested in experimenting with this project. For those who are new to turntables, it's essential to have some knowledge of the underlying geometry and how it affects sound quality. To complete the construction, you'll need a few specialized parts, including 3mm and 4mm bolts, nuts, and washers. You'll also require two 22mm radial bearings, typically used in 3D printers, for the platter spindle. Additionally, you'll need 500mm of 8mm carbon fiber tube with an inside diameter of 6mm. To assemble the turntable, follow these steps: Print all parts using PLA or a similar material at a moderate infill setting. Assemble the platter block with its struts and front and rear legs. Then, fit the motor block into the struts and attach it to the platter block. Next, assemble the tonearm block and attach it to the platter. Fit the top record center and then assemble the tonearm, which is a single-top balance-point style. Slide the wire into the carbon tube until it reaches the tonearm swivel, and then fit the headshell. Align the headshell with the swivel and place the assembled arm onto the spindle. Centre the bearing, and fit the platter. Assemble the weight and slide it onto the rear carbon fiber wand. Solder the correct ends of the tonearm wire to the phono outputs and fit the belt. To test the turntable, level it carefully, ensuring that the feet are firmly attached to a stable surface. You may need to apply a small amount of oil to the motor to reduce noise. Remember, this is an experimental project, not a replacement for a modern deck. It's lightweight and sensitive, so handle it with care. If you're new to turntable design, be prepared to face some challenges. However, with patience and practice, you can achieve great results. I'd like to thank Rhino for their trial software, which I used to create this 3D model. Their software is highly versatile and user-friendly, making it an excellent choice for beginners and experienced designers alike.
