Vinyl Siding Tool
thingiverse
I came home last night to find several sections of my vinyl siding had come loose from their neighboring runs of siding. Quickly grabbing a ladder, I realized that I would need some kind of tool to pull open the plastic lip on one section of siding so it could clip onto the siding below. Assuming that a suitable tool must exist, a quick internet search confirmed this suspicion. A "Vinyl Siding Removal Tool" is about 6"-7" long and has a section that angles off at about 45 degrees with a hook at the end. This tool is specifically designed to pull open the plastic lip on the lower edge of your siding so it can clip together with the siding below. It's fairly straightforward how to use this tool when you're looking at your siding. It works best if you clip a section of siding together, starting at the end of a segment, and then slide your tool to the side, clipping the sections of siding together. My tool caught a bit (likely because it's thicker and less slick than a store-bought steel tool), but a little lube on the tool might help. I was eager to create something with my printer that has actual practicality. While a $7 store-bought vinyl tool may work slightly better, this one will get the job done. This design isn't for everyone, however, if recent nor'easters in the eastern U.S. have taken their toll on your siding, this might be just what you need. I hope someone finds a use for this design.
