Vinyl Siding Block Light Mount (4" Siding)
thingiverse
I wanted to add an exterior light but the existing opening was too small, which made me realize that I needed a custom solution. Since siding blocks were $30+ each, I decided to create and print my own using 3D modeling software. The prototype shown here is a work in progress, as I still need to paint it with a matching sandstone finish. I've since adjusted the model based on this initial installation. To ensure secure mounting, use 1.75" to 2" screws that can be screwed into exterior sheathing. You'll likely need to drill wider holes, so consider using six perimeter walls to allow for any drilling or fitting issues. **Update:** This design now allows for printing without supports. Most importantly, please print the "Vinyl Siding Block Test Pattern.stl" file first to verify that it will fit your vinyl siding before investing time in printing a block that may not fit.
