Vinyl Record Ratchet 'Book End'
thingiverse
I got fed up with my expanding vinyl record collection leaning in their storage nook, and I wanted them to be more upright for purely aesthetic reasons. Scanning the shelves, the first thought was a standard bookend support. However, I didn't find one that caught my eye and the few I printed tended to slip out of place anyway. Not sure what possessed me to come up with this final idea, but this is a ratchet-based slider that will secure the records firmly yet allow for easy adjustment. The track is extendable and can be secured by screws to the top of the nook (it's an Ikea KALLAX bookshelf). I printed in PLA for its hardness, given it will be sliding and bouncing up and down in the ratchet. The brace needs to have the ratchet inserted when printed and secured with a little superglue in the slot. The ratchet also has a small thumb/finger tab which allows it to be pulled away from the track to let the brace move backwards (or forwards without the clacking of the ratchet!). Updated with a longer version of the brace that reaches farther down the record (it is about 170mm long). I discovered the short one was allowing the records to partly slip out the bottom.
