VILLE-NOWEIX This ancient gallery tomb, dating back around 5,000 years, was constructed between 3250 and 2250 BC. It features a rectangular chamber nestled within an enclosure formed by upright stones, which may have initially outlined the edges of a long, low mound covering the monument. Archaeologists unearthed the site in 1869, with S P Oliver and F Porter leading the excavation efforts. Further exploration was undertaken by Bellis & Cable in 1883. This Late Neolithic/Chalcolithic cist-incircle spans from 2850 to 2250 BC. The central stone box, likely housing human remains, was found empty when excavated in 1883 by Bellis & Cable. Originally, the cist was surrounded by a ring of rocks on edge and covered with a low mound. Several roughly crafted urns containing cremated human remains were discovered buried near the tombs, characteristic of late Bronze or early Iron Age graves dating from 800 to 450 BC.
