Villard de Honnecourt (Wilars dehonecort, fol. 1v; Vilars de Honecourt, fol. 15v) was a 13th-century artist from Picardy in northern France who left behind a lasting legacy. His work is only known through a single portfolio of 33 sheets of parchment containing approximately 250 drawings created between the 1220s and 1240s, now housed at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris (MS Fr 19093). The incredible diversity of subjects within this collection (sculptural figures, architectural plans, elevations, details, ecclesiastical objects, mechanical devices) makes it challenging to pinpoint its original purpose. Other intriguing elements include animals and human figures that also appear in the portfolio. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. Scan the World aims to create a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe, available for free access to the public. This project is an open-source community effort, and anyone interested in contributing can email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can participate.
