Board and Batten Jig

Board and Batten Jig*This jig will save you a lot of time as it eliminates the need to measure and mark each board.Meant for 1-1/2" wide boards but can easily be customized.HOW TO USE:First thing I did was measure my wall and the position of each outlet/switch with the switch covers in place. I then drew the wall out on a piece of paper and ran the math to find what spacing between boards would work without overlapping any outlets or switches.Print two jigs with supportsCut a 1-1/2" board a few inches longer than the length of the spacing you need.Attach jigs to the board (note the center line notches) and drill holes with a 5/32 drill bit.Insert screws (8/32 threads x 1-3/4 length) with nuts on the back side. Double check your center-center distance by measuring from center line to center line from one jig to the other. Make sure the nuts are tight and that the boards have a nice fit in the jig. Screw holes are slotted so you have an adjustment of about 1" either way but no matter how you adjust it the center line will always be the center of the boards.Once you measure and mark your first board(s) you can use this jig to eliminate the need to measure the rest of them. Also, I taped a small level to make sure everything was straight before nailing. And finally, let me know if you used this and if you think it helped. This was my 2nd or third time doing board and batten and I feel like it saved me many hours of work.
