This Viking Longship is based on the Skuldelev 5 wreck, discovered near Skuldelev, Denmark, and reconstructed by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum as the 'Helge Ask'. The original ship was built around 1030 CE in Denmark and measured approximately 17 meters long. It met its fate sometime around 1070 CE when it sank along with four other ships found at Skuldelev to block a navigable channel in the Roskilde Fjord. Given its relatively small size, coastal sailing is likely what this ship was designed for. A crew of 30 men would have manned it. Length: 17.3 meters Breadth: 2.5 meters Draught: 0.6 meters Displacement: 7.8 tons Number of Oars: 26 Crew: 30 men
