Vigil
thingiverse
The original model was printed via two methods. Method A involved slicing it into layers, printing the images on a laser printer, transferring outlines onto polystyrene sheets, and gluing them together. This resulted in two near-identical sculptures within just two days. In contrast, Method B required building a repstrap and spent two weeks calibrating it for accurate head printing. The piece is an abstraction of an alligator vertebra. Despite the model being the creator's first 3D print attempt, it was used in a sculpture class, impressing classmates with its sophisticated shape. The creator plans to remake the slicing tool and release it as open-source or public domain, enabling low-budget 3D printing and various scales without overhang concerns.
