We had a problem with excessive video game time and a lack of motivation to do anything but play video games with the kids. We implemented a token system that awards them 30 minutes, 15 minutes, or 5 minutes of screen time based on their daily behavior. At the end of each week, they collect the tokens they earned and store them in their personal bank until they're ready to redeem them for extra screen time. To earn more screen time, they must complete chores, which we reward with video game tokens when they help out around the house. We use 5-minute tokens to reinforce positive behavior and politeness. You can build your own rewards system or adapt ours for other purposes. We set up a "Central Bank" display case and each child has their own smaller bank (which I printed specifically for them). The tokens are made from various materials: the 5-minute token is printed in metallic copper PLA, the 15-minute token in silver and brown PLA, and the 30-minute token in golden yellow and silver PLA. Each token features the phrase "Video Game Time" embossed on it, but with our current nozzle setting, the text is only clearly visible on the 30-minute token. It's barely legible on the 15-minute token and essentially unreadable on the 5-minute token. We may need to adjust our nozzle setting to improve print quality.
