The Swiss Soldier Knife by Victorinox initiated the success of the Swiss company and country. Created under contract for the Swiss Army in 1891, it was issued to enlisted officers and soldiers as a rifle maintenance tool and can-opener. The multi-blade knife's high quality and utility led to the brand's recognition and influenced Switzerland's image. With only minor adjustments, this original model remained in service for over 50 years until 1951, when a new design replaced it.
