Victor Hugo, born on February 26, 1802, and passed away on May 22, 1885, was a prominent French poet, novelist, and playwright during the Romantic era. Regarded as one of France's greatest writers, his literary reputation stems from his poetry, novels, and dramatic works. Among his numerous poetic collections, Les Contemplations and La Légende des siècles stand out for their critical acclaim. However, Hugo is best known outside France for his novels Les Misérables (1862) and Notre-Dame de Paris (1831, known as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame in English). Besides literature, Hugo also demonstrated artistic talent by creating more than 4,000 drawings that have since been admired for their beauty. Additionally, he was a respected advocate for social causes, notably campaigning for the abolition of capital punishment.
