Excavators unearthed a remarkably preserved cranium from a 7th century necropolis nestled in Vicenne, Campochiaro, Molise, Italy. This skull once belonged to a knightly warrior who was laid to rest with his trusty steeds and arms, alongside some of the earliest known stirrups discovered in Western Europe. The necropolis showcases an intriguing blend of cultural influences, featuring Longobardic, Avarian, and Late Roman/Byzantine elements that make it one of Italy's most distinctive burial grounds.
