VFD LED Light Cube Clock

VFD LED Light Cube Clock

I'm excited to share this unique project I've created. It's a custom casing for an 8x8x8 LED light cube and an IV-22 VFD tube clock, both of which are available from Hobby Components - no affiliation there! The LED cube has been modified to run at a lower brightness than the standard model, and it's powered by an Arduino board that comes with a pre-programmed demo animation. However, users can also program custom messages or animations to display on the cube. To integrate the clock with the LED cube, I've used a buck converter to step down the voltage from 12V to 5V, which is compatible with both devices. The large base LEDs of the cube have been replaced with smaller wired LEDs that are now part of the VFD clock's colons, creating a cohesive look for this hybrid display. The result is a visually striking and functional timepiece that showcases the versatility of these components. If you're interested in seeing it in action, I've included two YouTube links below where I demonstrate its capabilities.
