Northwest of the Roddick Gate, excavations led to the discovery of remnants of three adjacent walls forming the original foundation of the east facade of the guardhouse lodge. During its demolition between 1917-1924, the building's substructure was filled with debris from its superstructure. Additionally, two old floor levels of the foundation were uncovered beneath these fillings. Dendrochronological analysis of the floorboards found at the base of the walls allowed for refinement of the temporal interval for the construction of the house, between 1866 and 1869. Despite the absence of prehistoric material or domestic occupation evidence related to James McGill's Burnside House (1798-1811), archaeological indicators obtained during this intervention allow for maintenance of estimated potential for this sector.
