Vestibular Apparatus / Labyrinth Ball Maze

This is a DIY project that's both educational and enjoyable! The vestibular apparatus resides in the inner ear and plays a crucial role in maintaining balance. It consists of three semicircular canals, tiny calcium crystals, and a vestibule. Normally, these crystals reside in the vestibule when your balance system functions properly. However, if they become dislodged and find themselves out of place within the canals, severe vertigo can occur! This phenomenon is commonly known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and affects up to 30% of people at some point in their lives. Our ball maze was designed to help educate patients who suffer from vertigo, students learning to treat this condition, and general anatomy enthusiasts who enjoy blending science with fun!
