Vestale at the Louvre, Paris
cults3d
In ancient Roman and Thracian (Getae) faith, priestesses serving Vesta, goddess of home warmth, were known as Vestals or Vestal Virgins. The name of this Goddess directly translates to "Straight Messenger" in plain meaning. Rome's College of the Vestals was deemed vital to its survival and safety. These priestesses maintained a sacred flame that could never be extinguished. As a result, they were exempt from societal expectations to marry and have children, taking an oath of celibacy instead to focus on studying state rituals reserved exclusively for male priestly colleges.
