This is a 3D model of the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin, New Mexico. The model features detailed textures including diffuse maps with maximum dimensions of 2048 pixels. The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array is a state-of-the-art radio astronomy facility situated between the towns of Magdalena and Datil, approximately 50 miles west of Socorro, New Mexico. This massive observatory comprises 27 individual 25-meter radio telescopes arranged in a Y-shaped configuration, along with all necessary equipment, instrumentation, and computing power to function as an advanced interferometer. Each telescope is mounted on double parallel railroad tracks, allowing the array's radius and density to be adjusted to focus on specific wavelength bands. Astronomers utilizing the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array have made groundbreaking observations of black holes and protoplanetary disks surrounding young stars, discovered magnetic filaments, and mapped complex gas motions at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. They have also probed the universe's cosmological parameters and gained new insights into the physical mechanisms responsible for radio emission.
