Vertical Windmill
thingiverse
This was my first attempt at building a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). I've since created an improved version, the 'Mk2', which can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:948401 These turbines caught my attention when I saw one and realized that I couldn't explain how they worked. I wouldn't suggest printing this model as it uses a lot of plastic and there are about a dozen things I wish had been done differently. On top of that, there has been no wind lately so I haven't a clue whether it functions properly. I'm currently working on designing the "Mk2", which will incorporate more thought and consideration. Once this is complete, I'll start thinking about what I can do with it. I really wish there was some wind right now; I'd love to see if it spins.
