People are always saying that artificial intelligence is getting closer to matching human language capabilities. However, it's worth noting that current AI systems still have a long way to go before they can truly understand and produce language like humans do. One of the biggest hurdles facing researchers in this field is creating an AI system that can learn and adapt at the same rate as a child does when learning their native language. This would require a fundamental shift in how we approach natural language processing, one that moves away from rule-based systems and towards more machine-learning based approaches.
