Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
thingiverse
This prototype VAWT has a 340mm diameter and serves as a scalable model. It uses three blades from scrap vinyl vertical blinds that fit snugly into the slots with a dab of epoxy. Blade arms attach using 3x 3mm screws or bolts, while the central hub accommodates a 7/16 shaft (a 1/2" threaded rod cut to fit with a nut below for support). The hub features a 20-tooth gear face for driving mechanisms, though initial power output is limited to landscaping lights. Solidworks part files are included for adjusting blade angles and printing multiple sets for multi-tiered versions with extended blinds. Print in ABS on a 12" cube reprap or any printer with at least a 140mmx140mm build surface, using around 35% fill for strength.
