Fossil remains of a whale's inner ear bone, known as a tympanic bulla, have been discovered in Charleston County, South Carolina. The fossil is from the Neogene or Pleistocene era and is housed in the research collection at the Paleontological Research Institution in Ithaca, New York. Measuring approximately 9.5 cm in length, this specimen was recreated by Emily Hauf's skilled model.
