The vertebral column, unique to vertebrates, replaces the notochord with segmented bones called vertebrae. These bones are separated by intervertebral discs, housing the spinal canal that safeguards the spinal cord. In humans, there are typically 33 vertebrae; 24 articulating and separated by discs, while nine are fused in adults. The remaining vertebrae vary in number per region, except for cervical, which rarely changes. Connecting ligaments stretch across the column's length and between vertebrae. This model demonstrates the human vertebral column and spinal cord. It contains approximately 132,691 polygons, created with 3 and 4-point polygons.
