Versalab finger guard for Dr Bean mod
thingiverse
While the Versalab is a fantastic grinder, its belt has a tendency to slip at times. Swapping out the power supply can help, but Dr. Bean from Taiwan offers an exceptional aftermarket timing belt upgrade that never slips. This upgrade does come with two minor issues: Firstly, the belt no longer acts as a fuse; adding a thermal switch (1.4-1.5A slow blow) will prevent motor overloading. Secondly, the cogs are larger and feature a lip, meaning the existing finger guard no longer fits snugly. Since leaving the grinder without a protective cover for the belt poses a significant risk, I crafted this modification to fit precisely where the original finger guard once sat, ensuring curious fingers stay away from the toothed mechanism. The design utilizes the original screw and screw hole, making it 100% reversible. Edited: I've enhanced code annotation and resized the design to minimize belt slap. Edit 2: Despite initial progress, some belt slap persisted. I redid the guard, widening the gap between the belt to about 5mm. To guarantee safety, I recessed the gap and left overhangs above and below the belt at the cog width – allowing for belt play while preventing fingers from poking between the belt and the guard. With these changes, there's no longer any belt slap. SCAD code and STL files are provided as v2 versions.
