The Vernier Caliper is a precision measuring instrument used to measure lengths and widths of objects. It consists of a main scale that has markings on it which correspond to inches or centimeters, and a slide that moves along the main scale with fine graduations for more precise measurement. The Vernier scale, located beside the main scale, can be slid back and forth over the fine graduations and is marked off in units of 0.1 millimeter or finer. By aligning the zero points of both scales together and then carefully sliding the vernier slide until it lines up with a particular point on the main scale, users can measure the distance between two fixed points with high accuracy.
