The "engagement stone", a marble monument that combines an obelisk with a sphere signifying the noon meridian, stands proudly at the intersection of Fohlenhof-Allee and Querallee on a small hill within the "Akademiepark" in Wiener Neustadt. A Gloriette once stood here, where Maria Theresa, founder of the Theresian Military Academy, exchanged vows with Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, in 1735. The stone bears witness to the emperor's visits, with dates expertly chiselled into its surface.
