Both tombstones should have been part of the building for a ball game, possibly they were placed on the walls that bordered the central patio. For Gulf Coast cultures and from Olmec times, decapitation sacrifice was a fundamental part of the head cult in ceremonies held during this game. The character represented here wears adornments associated with ball players: the wide belt, knee and hand protectors, and in this case, on the center of the belt, a palm.
