This espresso distribution tool is designed to work seamlessly with La Pavoni manual-piston espresso machines and similar 48mm portafilter machines. The tool helps distribute loose coffee grounds in the portafilter, a process that occurs after dosing but before tamping. When spun in a clockwise direction, the coffee is gently brushed clockwise by the gentle slope built into each of the three vanes on the face of the tool. These vanes are perfectly flat and have large cross-sections, allowing them to ride smoothly on top of the finished surface without sinking in. An adjustment mechanism is incorporated into the design, as the distribution tool screws into an outer body that rides on top of the portafilter basket's rim, preventing overpacking of the grounds. To adjust, simply turn the central part proud of the outer body until its protrusion matches the depth of the distributed grounds below the portafilter basket's rim. There is ample space in the tool body to insert weights as desired, providing a customized experience. Commercial distribution tools are often quite heavy and weighted. A portafilter funnel is also included with this design, matching the La Pavoni and other 48mm baskets. Ridges are built into the side of the funnel to support its thin sides and engage with features on the distribution tool's handle when not in use or stored.
