All the gods of Classical Greek mythology were invited to a vibrant soiree, but Eris, goddess of discord, had been deliberately excluded from the guest list. Seeking revenge for her omission, she tossed a glittering golden apple into the midst of the partygoers, bearing the inscription "To the most resplendent goddess." However, there was no consensus among the goddesses as to who should be considered the fairest of them all. To resolve this dilemma, the choice was entrusted to Paris, the mortal son of a king. The decision lay between Juno, Minerva, and Venus, with the latter, goddess of love and beauty, emerging victorious in the competition and claiming the apple as her prize. A sculpture captures the moment after the beauty contest, depicting Venus as she stands proudly, one hand holding onto her clothes as she adjusts them on a tree stump, while the other hand cradles the token of beauty, admiring its reflection in her gaze.
