Venus Rising from the Waves
myminifactory
When Swedish sculptor Johan Tobias Sergel depicts Venus emerging from the sea, he deliberately leaves her exposed. The gentle breeze guides her every step. Sergel drew inspiration from the ancient Hellenistic sculpture of Venus de' Medici, which he had seen in Florence in 1773. This exquisite marble work was commissioned by Duke Fredrik Adolf during his visit to Rome four years later, but Sergel only completed it in Stockholm in 1785. He refined it twenty years later. These high-definition scans were created using an Artec Eva with the goal of producing a digital replica as faithful as possible to the original. However, the displayed scans should not be considered exact duplicates due to inaccessible areas and other deviations from the original that may occur.
