This specific figurine, carved from mammoth tusk ivory, dates back to 20,000 BCE placing it firmly within the upper Paleolithic era. Currently, these ancient artifacts are on display at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. A high-resolution scan of this original cast was made while it was being exhibited in the Czech Republic during the 1980s. It took two years to locate these casts and conduct the scans using a cutting-edge scanner with resolutions as low as 25 microns.
