Venus de Willendorf

The Venus of Willendorf is a small anthropomorphic female statue dated between 20,000 and 22,000 years ago. It was discovered in a Paleolithic excavation site near Willendorf, Austria, on the banks of the Danube River in 1908 by Austrian archaeologist Josef Szombathy. This statue is one of the most well-known examples of the Venus figurines from the Paleolithic era. These figures depict women with unclear faces and an exaggerated emphasis on their body parts, including a prominent belly, large breasts, and obese legs. A completely nude image of an overweight woman was also common in Neolithic Egyptian, Greek, and Babylonian sculptures.
