Venus Callipyge at the Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
The Callipygian Venus, also known as Aphrodite Kallipygos or the Venus Callipyge, all literally meaning "Venus (or Aphrodite) of the beautiful buttocks", is a stunning Ancient Roman marble statue, believed to be a replica of an older Greek original masterpiece. In a bold example of anasyrma, it showcases a partially draped woman, lifting her lightweight peplos to reveal her hips and buttocks, and gazing back over her shoulder, possibly to assess them. The subject is conventionally identified as Venus (Aphrodite), but could also be the portrait of a mortal woman. This incredible object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe for the public to access for free.
