Human: Unique challenge leads to original design of a box resembling one of Bender's eyes. A colleague comments it looks like a Venus Fly trap, and names it "Venus Box". The cam actuates 4 doors by rotating a spherical cover (or base), ensuring secure closure or openness. With a 4 inch diameter, the whole unit snaps together seamlessly and prints without supports. Print the Cam at 0.3 or lower with 2 shells and 20% infill, no raft. Print the Cover with raft at 0.3 or lower, 2 shells, 20% infill. Print the doors with raft at 0.2 or lower, 3 shells, 20% infill. Trim off triangular nuggets from door hinges to aid in building. Slide doors together, inserting posts into hooked holes, and avoid snapping them together. If Cam is printed at 0.3, smooth out stair steps on cam tracks using sandpaper, a file, or soldering iron before assembling. Enjoy. EDIT 5/20/16: Parasolid files added. EDIT 5/24/16: NT (no trim) door files included without triangular build helper nuggets. EDIT 6/13/16: COVER2.STL with improved snap feature added for loose covers. EDIT 6/14/16: Featured on Thingiverse as an elegant Venus Box. EDIT 1/9/17: COVER3.STL added for tighter fit in multiple material type prints. https://youtu.be/-EtzOVkyGRA Printer Settings Printer Brand MakerBot Printer MakerBot Replicator 2 Supports No Notes Trim off triangular nuggets from door hinges to aid in building. If you don't remove the triangular build helper nuggets, the assembly will lock in closed position or come apart when opening.
