VentuPAP Positive Pressure Ventilation CPAP/BiPAP driver

Non-Invasive Positive-Pressure Ventilation can be achieved using a simple half-mask and a reliable source of clean, pressurized air with a pressure of approximately 10-15 cmH2O at the required flow rate for inhalation. This innovative system could potentially be used to treat ARDS caused by conditions such as Covid-19. This compressed-air injector venturi unit provides a consistent pressure of 10-20 cmH2O when driven with 1.5-2 bar pressure. By combining it with a carbon-filter column, clean air from the compressor can be ensured, allowing for safe pressurized air delivery. The output end is designed to fit a 20mm adapter onto a particle filter on a suitable mask. The design enables easy integration into existing ventilation systems. The venturi injector can be printed in one piece without support. For optimal performance, the nozzle should be drilled with an 0.8mm drill after printing. By combining the driver with a half-mask featuring modified exhaust valves to create positive pressure, CPAP NIV ventilation is achieved. Adding a solenoid valve for controlling compressed air flow allows for BiPAP functionality. With a differential pressure sensor, PEEP pressure can be set at 15 cmH2O (air off) and then re-enabled when pressure drops to 10 cmH2O. The venturi effect of the driver means that compressed air consumption is relatively low. A standard 2 HP compressor operates at about 15-20% duty cycle when continuously operating one device. A 5mm hose inner diameter is used, and different size hose connectors can be provided as needed.
