Ventricular system of the Brain / Ventricles of the Brain with stand

The ventricular system is a complex network of interconnected cavities inside the brain, where cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) is produced and circulates through the central nervous system. This fluid is essential for removing metabolic wastes from the interstitial fluids of nervous tissues and returning them to the bloodstream. The four ventricles are connected by a continuous pathway that allows CSF to flow freely. The two lateral ventricles, located in the left and right sides of the brain, were once referred to as the first and second ventricles. They are deep within the cerebrum and assume a C-shaped form due to their development from the telencephalon as it grows into the cranial cavity during neural development. The interventricular foramina connect the frontal region of the lateral ventricles with the third ventricle, which is located between the left and right sides of the diencephalon. The cerebral aqueduct, also known as the Aqueduct of Sylvius, passes through the midbrain and opens into the fourth ventricle, situated between the cerebellum and the pons and upper medulla. The choroid plexus, a specialized membrane containing ependymal cells lining blood capillaries, filters blood to produce CSF in the four ventricles of the brain. This process is essential for maintaining the health and function of the central nervous system. To better understand this complex system, I have created a detailed diagram illustrating the connections between the different parts of the ventricular system. Additionally, I have designed an educational model that showcases the ventricular volumes in a unique and visually appealing way. This model can be printed as an educational tool to teach students about the connections between the different parts of the ventricular system. It has been made possible by using medical data sets available online and post-processing them with mesh manipulation tools.
