I modified the Micro-Swiss Hot End fan duct for the Fang to allow for more airflow through the fins and improved cooling, so I cut a vent into each side of the heat sink to prevent it from blocking airflow entirely. There are two versions available - one is the original height with vents on either side, while the other has a simple flat plane cut to make the entire assembly shorter. I'm currently running the vented version on my rig and haven't had a chance to test the shorter version yet.
