Venice of the North: Narrow Boat & Lock

My grandfather used to say that Ellesmere Port was the Venice of the North, a city built on water with canals as its lifeblood. This Narrow Barge prototype was designed before mass production began, and I'm working on the lock gates - I had to dig out my Boat Museum book from the 1980s for some refresher reading. Ellesmere Port is home to the National Waterways Museum: a fascinating place where visitors can learn about the history of Britain's inland waterways and explore historic boats up close.
