What does its name mean? Its Spanish translation can be understood as "Fast Thief". When and who discovered it? During an expedition of the American Museum of Natural History to the Gobi Desert in Outer Mongolia, Peter Kaisen recovered the first known Velociraptor fossil on August 11, 1923. What size was it and how was it? The Velociraptors were two meters long, half a meter high. It weighed about 15 kilograms. The skull was very characteristic since it had a very elongated and curved shape upwards. Its sharp beak contained jaws made up of 28 teeth on each side. How long did it live? It lived in the Campanian, towards the end of the Cretaceous period, about 75 to 71 million years ago. What did it eat? The Velociraptors were carnivorous.
